We began two weeks of looking at deserts with a focus on North America. We thought up some words that might describe a desert, and discussed how desert life has adapted in some clever ways. We looked at plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert, and read “The Desert is Theirs” by Byrd Baylor and Peter Parnall. Our minds were collectively blown by saguaro cactus facts. Next we made God’s Eye handcrafts with popsicle sticks and colored yarn. And finally we read “Arrow to the Sun”, by Gerald McDermott.
