Raja, who sometimes gets greedy. Rani, a village girl.

The Raja got very greedy for himself and took all the rice from the people. All of the other people were made at him because he made a promise to share the rice. A famine came and the people had no rice.

Rani did something very nice and the Raja gave her a reward. Each day she would double the amount of rice the day before. On day one, she got one grain of rice. On the second day, she got two grains of rice. This went on for thirty days.

The book showed how people can be selfish. It shows how people can be respectful for others. And it shows how people can give rewards even though they do not need to.
