It takes place in the town of Hamelin. Hamelin is a real place near the river Wester in the country of Germany. The time period is around the time of the black death.

There are many, many rats that get into everything in the entire town! There is also a Pied Piper. He is called this because of his colorful clothes and he plays a type of pipe like a flute. The mayor is also a character who tries to help the town get rid of the rats.

If there was a problem presented in the book, write three (3) sentences about it. Otherwise, write three sentences about your favorite part of the book.:

There are three problems. The people of Hamelin don’t care enough about their children and care more about their own lives. There are rats that take over the town of Hamelin. The mayor promises to pay the piper for his work and then doesn’t.

If there was a problem presented in the book, write three (3) sentences about how the problem was solved. If there was not problem, write three sentences about what you would have liked to have seen in the book that the author did not include.:

The Pied Piper uses his pipe to lure the rats out of the town and into the river Weser to drown. When he does not get paid, he uses his pipe again to lure the children out of the town and over the mountain. The townspeople do not notice because they don’t pay close attention to their children.

How did this book make you feel? Write three (3) sentences describing the feelings you had, when reading the book.:

It made me feel scared when I heard about how the rats were everywhere in the town. I felt excited when the Piper uses a magical pipe because I like magic. I was also sad at the end when the townspeople are separated from their children at the end.

I gave the book 5 stars because the Pied Piper was very clever. He solved the problem in an way that no one else tried. Also, I like how he taught the people a lesson about how it is important to pay the piper and pay attention to your children.
