There are pilgrims on their way to Canterbury in England. It takes place a long time ago in the Medieval Ages after the death of Thomas Beckett. They have decided to tell stories, and the scholar from Oxford tells this story.

List all of the main characters in the book, and share a little bit of information about each character.:

Walter, Griselda, and her father are the main characters. Walter is the Lord of a manor. He marries Griselda even though she is a peasant. Griselda is obedient, never complains, and is beautiful.

If there was a problem presented in the book, write three (3) sentences about it. Otherwise, write three sentences about your favorite part of the book.:

Lord Walter wants to see if Griselda is loyal, so he tests her. The tests include seeing if she will allow her husband to take her children away. Another test is whether she will give up being the lady of the manor.

If there was a problem presented in the book, write three (3) sentences about how the problem was solved. If there was not problem, write three sentences about what you would have liked to have seen in the book that the author did not include.:

Griselda agrees to all of her husband’s tests. She gives up her children and leaves being the lady of the manor. Then, the Lord sees how wonderful she is and brings back the children and makes her the Lady again.

How did this book make you feel? Write three (3) sentences describing the feelings you had, when reading the book.:

It made me feel like I did not like Walter putting his wife through such terrible tests. I felt pity for Griselda. I kept wondering when Walter would stop testing Griselda.

I gave it a high rating because I liked the trickery. I liked how Griselda was loyal, but I didn’t like that Walter was mean. I would have given it five stars if Walter had not been so deceitful.
