This week the Quarks made mixed media self portraits. A few weeks ago the kids posed for pictures with whatever expression they wanted. Some smiled,some chose silly faces. Last week they painted canvas board that would serve as the backround for their portraits. This week I brought in prints of their pictures which they glued to their canvas boards. Then the kids chose from the many supplies on hand to add embelishments. They used feathers,shiny stars,foam letters,stamps,sequins,stickers and paper. It was great to see each of their personalities come through their works of art.
As the kids finished up with their self portraits,I gave each of them a ball of dough,pipe cleaners,beads and buttons to create sculptures. Again it was fun to see the different ways the kids approached the project.
