This week we read the book The Gardener by Sarah Stewart. The book is made up of a series of letters written by the main character who is living with her uncle who never smiles (but does end up showing his smile in his own special way!). I showed the kids a handmade post card that a friend sent to my family which made us smile.Then we set to work making our own post cards. We finished up our time together with the book Ish by Peter H. Reynolds. The main character loves to draw but after a negative exchange with his older brother is discouraged and looses his love of drawing. After discovering that his younger sister loves his art even if it isn’t perfect his world is changed for the better.
