In today’s session, we focused on the idea of the “voice” of a writer. It is one of many techniques a writer incorporates into their pieces and is uniquely their own, just as someone’s speaking voice is unique to them. Attitude, tone, and personal style are part of a writer’s voice. Attitude is how you feel about someone or something and reveals itself in the way you talk. Tone of voice in writing is similar to tone of voice when talking. (Take this example…when it is time to clean up after lunch at co-op do you quietly say, “Please put all your lunch things away.” or does someone yell emphatically, “TIME TO CLEAN UUUUPPPPPPPPP!) Lastly Personal style gets into the technical aspects of writing with vocabulary, sentence, and grammar. So the next time you are reading or writing, consider the idea of “voice.”
