| What is the setting of the book? |
| The story takes place in Greg’s house which is located at 12 Surrey street. Parts of the story happen at the his middle school as well as at his friend’s Rowley’s. |
| Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like? |
| The main character of the book is Gregory Heffley. He is eager to become famous, he often takes advantage of his best friend Rowley. Rowley is not the smartest kid, he is the only child and he still plays with toys meant for 5 year olds. Greg’s older brother, Roderick, is another character who also dreams of becoming famous. He really likes playing drums and bullying his younger brother Greg. Manny, Greg’s younger brother, is a huge tattletale who also throws frequent tantrums. |
| What is the conflict of the story? |
| There seem to be a few conflicts in “cabin fever”. The biggest being the blizzard that just stroke Greg’s town leading to everyone being stuck inside. Greg gets sick of living with his family and experiences cabin fever. The power in Greg’s house goes out and the family is cold and worried. Right before the storm Gregory and Rowley accidentally damage school’s property. Greg spends time worrying about the consequences. |
| What was the conclusion of the book? |
| It turned out that Manny, Greg’s younger brother, was the one responsible for the power outage. He messed with the control box setting up heat to go to his room only and accidentally broke the system. As the plows finally arrive and clear out the way Greg and his family are “freed”. They are relived not to be stuck inside together anymore. Rowley writes a note in which he, along with Greg, takes a blame for the school incident. Greg confesses it was just an accident and everyone moves on. |
