What is the setting of the book?
The book takes place in Monstrosity Studios, an old movie studio which had made the best horror movies in the ’50s. Ruthie and Ezra’s dad and uncle buy the place, hoping to bring it back and make modern horror movies for Ruthie and Ezra to star in.
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like?
Ruthie Dillon is a kid who’s probably about 14. She isn’t thrilled about her dad and uncle buying Monstrosity Studios, although she does look forward to starring in the cast! Ezra Dillon, on the other hand, is so excited that Monstrosity Studios is now in his family. He researched all of Monstrosity Studios’s old movies, and is excited to be part of the cast.
What is the conflict of the story?
Mysterious – and bad – things keep happening to the Dillons. First, a statue falls. Then, a swarm of angry bees attacks them. And of course, the animatronic monsters come alive! Ruthie and Ezra need to stop these attacks or otherwise, they may die.
What was the conclusion of the book?
Luckily, Edgar Allen Poe (he was named after the author) and a girl who’s name I forgot (maybe Echo?) were defeated in an “epic” battle. Ruthie, Ezra, and their dad and uncle are safe.
While reading the book, what were your emotions?
For most of it I was excited to read more, although the ending really dropped down my rating. If the ending was better, it probably would have been an eight or nine instead of a six. The ending left me a little bit confused and desperately wanting more since it seemed almost like a first-draft ending.
Do you think the book had a moral? If so, what was it?
It didn’t have one.

Why did you give the book this rating?
The book was good, though not scary like I was hoping, but I don’t think the ending was great. It was a bit uneventful in my opinion. Plus, I think that some of the action seemed a bit off. It was also a bit predictable. I really liked the art though; it was really pretty! The book was good, though not scary like I was hoping, but I don’t think the ending was great. What was your favorite/least favorite part?
My least favorite part was probably the quicksand scene. It was supposed to be the big OMG moment, but it really wasn’t that great or eventful in my opinion.
Would you recommend this book to others? Why?
I might recommend it to people who enjoy mild horror (it wasn’t really scary) and are 8+, but I don’t really know, since I would only say the book was okay.
