What is the setting of the book?
This story takes place in the kingdom of King Thoroughgood and Queen Dilly’s. Mainly at the library and their palace.
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like?
The main character is Princess Peony. She likes to bake, read and learn new things but she’s not supposed to. Basil is a talking cat who lives with three fairy godmothers and keeps an eye on the royal family. Lionel Longbeard and Horrington become friends with Peony and help her. The Hag is the villain, but she’s only upset because they always forget to invite her to parties.
What is the conflict of the story?
Peony wants to read and do things like baking which a princess shouldn’t do. Her new baby brother is having a giant christening party. Peony has to escape her father’s dungeon to save the party and make things right for Lionel and Horrington.
What was the conclusion of the book?
King Thoroughgood realizes his mistakes and asks Peony to make him one of her special cherry pies. Lionel gets to go back to the library and Horrington is released from the dungeons too. The Hag is caught and carried away by the guards.
While reading the book, what were your emotions?
I was flabbergasted when The Hag’s plan was spoiled and the party was saved. I was happy when the King said Peony could bake and visit the library whenever she wanted.
Do you think the book had a moral? If so, what was it?
King Thoroughgood learned his lesson, you can’t put people in a dungeon without a just reason. He also learned to love Peony for all the specials things that make her different from other princesses.
