The setting is real life on planet earth. This is a book I wanted to read after playing with an electromagnetic crane at the Museum of Science and Industry in their Idea Factory.
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like?
There aren’t any characters in this book but there are main ideas. The first Idea in the bookintroduces magnetism, who discovered it, and the rocks lodestone and magnetite. The second idea in the book introduces the history and functions of a compass. The third idea introduced is how electricity works. All of these elements are important to understand what an electromagnet is.

Electromagnets are everywhere! They are used for doorbells, speakers, electronic key pads and hair dryer motors.
