Vaungaylen is the adopted son of the Prime Minister and he is looking for an adventure outside of the castle. Hemlock is the Queen’s brother, he is not very nice and starts lots of trouble. He is trying to start a war and take over the kingdom. Ardis is a mermaid who lives in a lake at the top of the mountain ridge. She is sad because a man took her key to the stone water house in the middle of the lake. |
What is the conflict of the story?
It all started with a fight in the court over the definition of ‘delicious.’ The Prime Minister was writing a dictionary for the King. The fighting got so bad because everyone disagreed over their favorite food. Finally they decided to send Gaylen around the kingdom to take a poll of everyone’s vote. In each town the people would start to argue and fight when Gaylen started his poll. Hemlock used the arguing to try and start a war throughout the Kingdom so he could be King.
What was the conclusion of the book?
Hemlock tried to dam up the lake that Ardis lived in so people would run out of water and be even more angry. But Gaylen was able to return the missing key to Ardis and asked for her to help destroy the dam.
