What is the setting of the book?
The Questioneers live in Blue River Creek but this was mostly at the Mysterious Mansion that was given to Aunt Bernice.
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like?
Iggy Peck who is an architect, Ada Twist who is a scientist, Rosie the engineer and Sofia. Aunt Bernice is a big character in this book, sometimes she’s only in little parts. Herbert Sherbert and Pierre Glacé were also big characters in this book, even though they were dead.
What is the conflict of the story?
Aunt Bernice was given the deed to the Mysterious Mansion, it used to belong to Herbert Sherbert the inventor of Green Goose Ice Cream. When his wife and daughter died of Spanish Flu he disappeared and left the mansion to be cared for by Pierre Glacé. Pierre was really Herbert, he wanted to be able to start a new quiet life in the small coach house. When Pierre died, he left the mansion to Aunt Bernice, Ada’s aunt. The mansion seems haunted, and they need to find the antique furniture hidden in a secret room to pay for renovations. Rosie and Sophia find out that there are gears and pipes under the porch and the portrait is really an organ that makes it sound haunted so Pierre can keep away all the burglars that might try to steal the antique furniture.
What was the conclusion of the book?
They found the clues hidden in the house that led to the secret room, the keyhole was and on a cat’s collar that was Art Deco when all the other wallpaper was Art Nouveau. The room was full of furniture and the house was saved. Aunt Bernice invited the whole town to picnic on the lawn in honor of Herbert Sherbert s daughter Honey. The house was full of life again.
While reading the book, what were your emotions?
I felt kind of worried and nervous about Miss Weatherbee buying the mansion and tearing it down before they found the furniture.
Do you think the book had a moral? If so, what was it?
Happiness is the key to everything, just like Herbert Sherbert always said.
Star Rating
Selected Value: 10 (0 min / 10 max)
Why did you give the book this rating?
I really like this book because it had so much scariness to it and the tiniest, tiniest bit of humor to it. Actually, there was lots and lots and lots of humor in this book!
What was your favorite/least favorite part?
My most favorite part was when all the Questioneers found the furniture in the secret room. I loved Iggy’s passion and knowledge of architecture.
