Author(s)
Alex Bell
Genre
Fantasy
What is the setting of the book?
The book takes place in a magical world. It starts out at Eli’s house, and continues aboard a ship. Sometimes they make stops on land.
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like?
Eli is the main character. He is a book mage — that means he can put people in books or take people out of books. He took Jeremiah out of a book — Jeremiah is a sea captain who captains a magical ship called the Nepo. Eli does not like going on adventures; he only likes reading about them. Jeremiah is the opposite!
What is the conflict of the story?
Eli’s nana is dying because her magic is running out, so he decides to enter the Glorious Race of Magical Beasts with his tortoise, Humphrey. He could use the magic that he gets from winning to buy a magic ruby that would restore his nana’s magic. Jeremiah comes too.
What was the conclusion of the book?
Eli finds the prize, but he meets an archer named Raven (who is really Princess Ravina, a fairy) who wants to save a tree that gives the whole forest magic. The tree is dying too. Eli decides to share the prize.
While reading the book, what were your emotions?
The book was really exciting! None of it was dull. I really liked the characters; my favorites were Ravina and her pet ice hare, Pierre. I think Jeremiah was really funny.
Do you think the book had a moral? If so, what was it?
I don’t think the book had a moral, except “Share the prize!” Because then both of you get what you want.
Star Rating
Selected Value: 10 (0 min / 10 max)
Why did you give the book this rating?
It was all so exciting and fun! The characters were amazing; they really developed them. For example, they met Raven, and she played a very big part in the story, and you got to know her. None of it was boring! The final checkpoint was at the Tiger Temple, which was very exciting.
What was your favorite/least favorite part?
I didn’t have a least favorite part. My favorite part was at the end, when Eli put Raven in a book for a moment when he got to the prize. It was a book with lots of flowers, and when Raven came back out, she was covered in them!
Would you recommend this book to others? Why?
I would! If you like fantasy, this book would be very enjoyable. There wasn’t any downside to it; nothing too scary, just a little bit.
