Today the Neutrons discussed soil (otherwise known as dirt). We read a book about the different layers of soil and were excited to discuss what “animal matter” might mean. Then we walked a portion of a new-to-us trail and dug in the soil with sticks to see what we could discover. Of course, we found lots of other nature-y things to explore and discuss: holes in the ground and in tree trunks that might be habitats, lichens and mosses, downed logs to climb, deer poop, and seeds that stuck to us as an amazing adaptation that allows the species to spread!

This group really seems to enjoy exploring and discovering and sharing what they know. I’m glad to be part of it, and in such a great location that encourages us tramping around!
