This week students had to try to create a support for a book, and then expand that to a support for an open book.  We had two books – one heavier than the other.  The support had to raise the book at least 4” off of the table.

Their only materials were printer paper, rubber bands and paper clips.  🙂

AND THEY DID IT!

This led to discussions about over-engineering, cost reduction and why companies sometimes do things they think might be completely ridiculous in the interest of serving a customer.  It was an interesting day!
