Quarks started art last week with an outdoor reading of The Mitten String by Jennifer Rosner. In the book, a girl knits a pair of mittens for a deaf mother and her baby when she notices that they sleep with a string tied between their two wrists. That way, when the baby moves his mitten, the mother feels the baby stirring by the tug on her own mitten. After the story, we went inside and tried our hands at finger knitting. A great big THANK YOU to Judi and Cherise as well as to Dominic and Laura for jumping in to help. Some of the quarks really took to practicing the stitching! We also had an interpretive project on card stock connecting two people together with a strand of yarn.
