What is the setting of the book? |
The book is set, at first, in Hawaii, where Cruz lives. But later he gets enrolled in Explorer Academy, which is a futuristic school far away in Washington DC, the capital of the United States. It’s a huge school that encompasses a planetarium and a museum- and a virtual reality training area called the CAVE, which simulates real life and can change it’s form so you can actually feel things! |
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like? |
Cruz Coronado is the main character. In the beginning of the book, he lives with his father in Hawaii. Unfortunately, his mother was killed shortly after he was born in a tragic fire in a laboratory. He’s 12, but he’ll turn 13 soon. |
What is the conflict of the story? |
It seems that there was more to his mom’s death than what meets the eye. Traces appear of a mysterious group called Nebula who’s members refer to them by codenames. First they attack him while he’s still in Hawaii, and later a traitor arises… Weird things are happening. The Synthesis, the top secret lab where his mom worked, wants his blood. There are strange flickers. They enter a room full of poisonous gas. Not only that but he has troubles at school as well. The academy finds out that someone has been hacking to make the tests in the CAVE easier. It’s traced back to Cruz’s tablet, and he is expelled from the academy. He doesn’t know who he can trust. |
What was the conclusion of the book? |
They figure out that the hacker was Renshaw, one of Cruz’s fellow peers. Cruz is invited back into the academy. Cruz finds a secret journal that his mom left behind for him. Apparently, it’s going to take him on a scavenger hunt throughout the entire world. But unfortunately, Nebula is still coming for him- and the journal (which holds the secret to cell regeneration). The Explorers are going to take off on a ship for a year to explore the world. |
