What is the setting of the book?
It begins in a ramshackle old house in Sweden. The house’s name is Villa Villekulla. It’s in a town with many other people in it.
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like?
The main character is Pippi Longstocking. Her friends are Tommy and Annika, and she lives with a monkey called Mr. Nilson and a horse. Pippi is nine years old. She has orange hair, a blue dress, and black shoes. Pippi is very brave; she shoots pistols out of windows! And uses a sword!
What is the conflict of the story?
Pippi’s mother died (Pippi thinks she’s an angel), and when Pippi was sailing on the seas with her father, he drowned. (But she thought he had become a cannibal king and was going to come get her, and she would be a cannibal princess.) Now she lives all on her own in Villa Villekulla. People want her to go to school and an orphanage, but she wants to be on her own and not go to an orphanage.
What was the conclusion of the book?
Police tried to escort her to the orphanage, but they were unable, because she is too strong. She spends one day at school but says “Not for me!” So she keeps living in Villa Villekulla.
While reading the book, what were your emotions?
Sometimes I felt scared, but sometimes I felt happy. When she rescued children from a building, I felt scared. It was really tense. I laughed when Tommy shrieked “A ghost!” and it was really an owl. I liked Pippi a lot, and Annika too.
Do you think the book had a moral? If so, what was it?
You can do whatever you want. Don’t let people force you to.
Star Rating
Selected Value: 5 (0 min / 10 max)
Why did you give the book this rating?
I enjoyed it part of the way. Sometimes Tommy and Annika weren’t having any fun, and they were just sitting at the kitchen table. They mostly didn’t do anything. Five is in the middle because five plus five is ten, so that’s why I selected five.
What was your favorite/least favorite part?
The part that I really liked was when they had a picnic. They were having a good time, and Tommy and Annika were included. I think it would be really fun.
Would you recommend this book to others? Why?
I would recommend the book to others because it’s very adventurous. I think other people would enjoy the book. I would want them to see the picnic, and how strong Pippi is, and how she wants to be a pirate when she grows up.
