What is the setting of the book?
The book takes place in Piedmont, a seemingly small town in the US. Mostly at parties or in Piedmont High, the book follows Becca, Arianna, Marley, and Amanda’s “endeavors” to find food so they won’t go hungry.
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like?
Becca is a 16-17 (probably 17) year old girl who used to be normal. But now that she was noticed by the popular girls, she became a werewolf. Now, every month on the full moon, she and her packmates have to go out and eat one person, unless they want to suffer terrible hunger.
What is the conflict of the story?
When Becca starts a new high school, she is connected with the popular girls. And, of course, when she joins the popular crowd they tell her their popular-girl secrets: they are werewolves. But Becca wants to belong, and she agrees to become a werewolf with them.
What was the conclusion of the book?
In the end, Arianna (their pack leader) dies. The only way out of being a werewolf is to eat your pack leader’s heart, so that’s what Marley and Becca do. After that, the two of them go to prom together (as a couple) and lead a probably-somewhat-normal life.
While reading the book, what were your emotions?
This. Book. Was. Terrifying. Seriously. For the most part I wasn’t super scared but it was definitely creepy. For some reason, the authors did an amazing job of wanting me to hope that the bad guys succeeded in getting away with MULTIPLE murders. Every page I read got me more excited to read more!
Do you think the book had a moral? If so, what was it?
No, it didn’t.
Star Rating
Selected Value: 10 (0 min / 10 max)
Why did you give the book this rating?
I really love the aspect of them killing the “bad” boys, and never killing Piedmont kids. It’s terrifying, it’s morbid, but somehow I still love it.
What was your favorite/least favorite part?
I didn’t even have a favorite, it was all so good! I did really enjoy the scene where Becca was turned into a werewolf, though.
Would you recommend this book to others? Why?
I would! Although I’m not 13, I would say the book is a mostly 13+ graphic novel because of language, sensitive/dark topics (murder), and **IMPLIED** non-s*xual nudity after they change back into their human form.
