Book Title
The Happy Hollisters
Author(s)
Jerry West
Genre
Mystery
What is the setting of the book?
It begins in the Hollister‘s house, where seven Hollisters (counting their parents) live. The house is in the country, but they soon move to another house, in Shoreham. Shoreham surrounds a lake, and in the middle of the lake is Blackberry Island.
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like?
The Hollister children are Holly, Ricky, Pete, Pam, and Sue. Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. Hollister. Pete is the oldest, and Sue is very young, like about 3. The children are very helpful.
What is the conflict of the story?
When they were moving, like I said earlier in the book report, they settled down in the new house. But when they looked in the van, all of their toys were gone! Also, they find kittens, but Joey Brill is pretending that they’re his, and wants to get them.
What was the conclusion of the book?
They find the thief, whose name is Bo Stenkle. Bo had heard about a secret treasure in the Hollisters‘ new house, and he needed help to find it. He eventually gives up and tells the Hollisters where the treasure is, and they find it! It’s money. Also, the children protect the kittens (and their mother, White Nose) from Joey Brill. They become the Hollisters‘ cats.
While reading the book, what were your emotions?
It was intense and happy! I was anxious when Joey Brill was about to bathe the cats in water, because cats don’t like that. He’s basically just a mean boy. I was relieved and thrilled at the end, when they found the treasure before Bo Stenkle. I was excited when they took a picture of Bo Stenkle wearing the red hat, trying to uncover the treasure.
Do you think the book had a moral? If so, what was it?
I don’t think the book had a moral, because it’s basically just adventure.
Star Rating
Selected Value: 6 (0 min / 10 max)
Why did you give the book this rating?
It was intense and exciting. I gave it a 6 because it wasn’t _too_ good, but it was very adventurous. It didn’t have anything like “Oh no, giant lizard attacks!” It was basically, like, a detective story.
What was your favorite/least favorite part?
My favorite part was when they uncover the treasure, and Bo Stenkle gave up. They were extra happy that time! They should call it the Happy Happy Hollisters. My least favorite part was when they kept failing to get a picture of Bo Stenkle; it was very discouraging, and I thought that they would never ever do it. Eventually, in the end, they did, and that was very exciting.
Would you recommend this book to others? Why?
I’d love to recommend it! It’s full of detective adventure, and lots of other things. I think my brother would like it, because he loves crime and detectives.
