This week, the Neutrons and Electrons did a hands on experiment with melting ice. We started out creating hypotheses about which substance melts ice best, then each set to work testing our substances using pipettes to melt ice cubes. Substances tested include water, vinegar, baking soda, sugar, salt, and beet juice. There were some surprises in the results and some astute observations made along the way! We ended by recording our results and then discussing the unintended factors that may have impacted our experiment (speed of application, size of ice cube, how the substance was prepared, etc.)
