For our first class, we worked together as a group to reproduce some old portraits. Some brave volunteers would sign up to be subjects, and (based on the image) we would decide on the background and how to frame the photograph. I brought some extra dress-up supplies, and the group was incredibly resourceful coming up with the right costumes — or, in some cases, the hilariously (and intentionally) wrong costumes. The subjects very dutifully assumed the expressions of their models, and the chosen photographer would snap the shot.

The group worked really well together, and made some great choices. It was nominally an exercise in observation, but also touched on group communication and coming to a consensus.
