We continued our rock discussions this week. We began with a classification activity where they had to cut and paste pictures of rocks and decide if they were igneous, metamorphic or sedimentary. There were some healthy discussions about how how this was to decide and how some rocks were very confusing to tell the difference. So, with the adults help, we found our rocks and minerals books to be helpful guides to making our best guesses. We learned that even scientists have to sometimes use their best guesses until they have more information. Next, they were able to pick our favorite rock from the piles of rocks and make some discoveries. We used measuring tapes, a scale and our eyes to collect data. As a group, we were able to share our favorite rocks and see the similarities and differences between what everyone chose.
