What is the setting of the book?
The setting of the book is at Deepdean School (which was also in “Murder is Bad Manners” — I did a book report on it). They also go outside, near Deepdean. It happened in the 1930s.
Who is/are the main character(s)? What are they like?
Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are detectives; they’ve solved three cases. Daisy is the President of the Detectives Society, and Hazel is the secretary AND the vice president (because Daisy thought Hazel was so smart). Daisy is really brave and exciting, and Hazel is more calm and casual.
What is the conflict of the story?
Elizabeth Hurst was murdered. She was Head Girl. Daisy and Hazel are solving the mystery of who murdered her. The only people who could have done it were the five mean prefects (“The Five”).
What was the conclusion of the book?
They found out that Enid (one of The Five) murdered her. They had ruled Enid out because she was too weak to commit the crime, but they found out that she was stronger than she looked. Enid murdered Elizabeth to keep a secret hidden: that Enid was cheating on tests.

Along the way, their friend Binny was kidnapped by Una, so they thought that Una committed the murder. But in the end they found out that Una was only trying to keep Binny safe from the murderer, and brought her food and water.

While reading the book, what were your emotions?
I was really excited throughout the book! Lots of the scenes were very tense. I felt happy at the end, because everything was back to normal.
Do you think the book had a moral? If so, what was it?
I don’t think it had a moral, besides “Don’t murder people.”

Elizabeth collected secrets, and she threatened to let them out and coerced people that way. That was wrong of her. It was like bullying.

Star Rating
Selected Value: 10 (0 min / 10 max)
Why did you give the book this rating?
It was all really exciting and great! I loved it all. Not knowing who the murderer is makes it really exciting, and it’s fun when they solve it at the end. The characters were really elaborate and felt like real people.
What was your favorite/least favorite part?
I didn’t have a least favorite part; it was all so good! My favorite part is when they solve it at the end. I also really liked when they found the hockey stick (the murder weapon), but then the murderer took it! That was a great surprise.
Would you recommend this book to others? Why?
I would recommend it if you like murder mysteries. But some people wouldn’t like it, because in every book someone is killed.
